It doesn’t have that strong smell like other dry fishes have because we adhere to Export standards, we do have this knowledge because we do export our dry fishes too. Also called bummalo, bombil, and boomla, this is not a duck at all, but a small dried fish from India and Bangladesh. The fish are landed then hung on racks on the beach to dry in the sun. It is prepared in two ways. The whole fish are washed clean, split, boned, and dried in the sun. The drying is done on scaffolds made from bamboo poles fixed in the sand with bars tied with thick ropes horizontally in lines one above the other. This is the method adopted for the local market.
